GeoTools-CADPower V23 Released!

What's new in V23?

As always, GeoTools and CADPower continue with their tradition of incrementally updating itself with new features during the life-cycle of its numbered version.

In other words, we don’t bring in a whole lot of new features on day one, but add them incrementally over the life-cycle of the product, which is typically 12 months.

We continue to focus on usability improvements and productivity hacks to get you finish your CAD tasks faster. he CAD drafting practices and user preferences have changed over the past many years. New generation drafters do it differently than people like me – the 50+ old-timers. We are trying our best to tweak our tools for the new-gen drafters and designers.

We released 66 updates during the momentous V22 life-cycle which ran for a record 18 months.

This one-off change from the usual 12 month life-cycle was made to coincide the release of GeoTools and CADPower with that of its fastest growing host platform – BricsCAD.

BricsCAD V23 releases on October 31, 2022 and we wanted to be celebrate that with the new numbered upgrade V23 of GeoTools and CADPower as well.

So, why are we releasing GeoTools and CADPower a month before BricsCAD V23? This is simply because we have a number of users who are on BricsCAD V23 beta and would like to trial our software on BricsCAD V23.

By October 31, 2022, we would have released a few more minor updates of V23 and our software will be bullet-proof ready for BricsCAD V23.

Goals for CADPower V23: Embracing Excel, ERP integration etc.

Starting off as a humble sub-set of GeoTools, CADPower grew rapidly in functionality over the last 10 years. We realize that the journey has just begin and there is still lot of ground to cover.

During the V23 life-cycle, we are going to focus more on creating direct XLSX data output instead of the CSV route that we have taken until now. This will enable users to visualize the output in a brighter, cleaner and comprehensible format in Excel than the plain old CSV file. This change will apply to many commands in CADPower which export CSV output.

We spent the last 3 months perfecting the Excel Lisp API and have built a formidable set of tools that we are now ready to apply on CADPower functions.

With many of our customers in the manufacturing sector, we got pulled into the ERP conversation in many ways. The BOM-BOQ and quantity take-off tools in CADPower were only a conversation starter for all ERP related functions.

The dominant requirement in this industry is to be able to send extract quantity takeoffs from your drawings and manage revisions etc.We plan to make huge improvements and extensions to the BOM-Q tools to enable this function.

Creating multi-sheet Excel data of your designs is now going to be easier with V23.

We love feedback. Please let us know what your industry / workflow requires, and we will try build that into our workflow.

Where is GeoTools headed?

On GeoTools, we plan to build more Mining and Geological Tools during V23. This module is an additonally priced sub-set that is of use to mining, geological and mineral exploration companies.

Our other focus area is going to be to delve deeper into the Civil API of BricsCAD Pro and create several purpose-built regional tools for the civil and mapping industry in India and elsewhere.

Bug watch / teething troubles

GeoTools and CADPower are in for a huge overhaul, and that is a huge positive in the long run.

I request you to please bear with us if you encounter some short-term bugs and crashes. Just tell us and we will do our best to fix the issues as soon as possible.

Modest price revision

This release, we have kept the price revisions to an absolute minimum as possible.

For the first time ever, CADPower has seen a slightly higher percentage price change than GeoTools. This reflects the fast paced growth of CADPower and the value it brings to the CAD user.

Every day, we now get about four new ideas for implementation in CADPower from across the industry segments.

This reflects the amount of effort and development that is going into CADPower, and the value that it brings to the user.

Despite the nominal price increases, our customers are able to achieve an ROI of less than a month for both GeoTools and CADPower.

There is no change in the yearly rental prices of GeoTools and CADPower, which remains at EUR 104 / year / license. This is perhaps the best value you can get for your money and the way forward, with efficient ramp-up and ramp-down possibilities.
