Bricsys 2015 User Conference – Day 1 Afternoon Developer Session

Munich, Germany

The Bircsys 2015 Conference format has changed. Post lunch, it is still a closed group, partners-only presentation. Not everything said here is for public disclosure. CEO Erik de Keyser started by driving home a strong message about the benefits of developing on the BricsCAD platform – both desktop and cloud. We go to hear his clear vision of where BricsCAD developer APIs are headed, both with its own road-map as well as what the competition is doing. Erik firmly affirmed that they were on the right path all along the past 15 years ago and the key decisions they took are already paying off today.

Next, we had Luc de Batselier, CTO of Bricsys giving the more technical details of the APIs. The presentation was detailed enough to interest hard-core developers as well as drive home the larger message that Bricsys wanted to deliver to partners about API support and putting power in the hands of developers.

First off, BricsCAD V16 has moved to a Visual Studion 2013 platform from 2010. The Bricsys BRX team has rewarded programmers with further improving internal API access to features like IFC & other exchange APIs, Dynamic input, Boundary Detection, Collision Detection and the like.

An internet outage in the hall in the afternoon prevented me from posting or tweeting this session live yesterday.

After an hour of presentation on BRX, coffee break followed and we moved to the ground floor where the Developer Meet & Greet session was next. Instead of having third party developers come up on stage and present their wares to the audience, the BMW Welt floor-space was open to one-on-one interaction between third party developers and sales partners.

Developers Meet & Greet Session

We saw Clive Davis from Pictorex showing the ARTISAN rendering solutions, Andrej & Leon from CGS PLus, Solvenia with their transportation design solution and William Castillo from Diseños Digitales, Costa Rica showing his DTCPro software for civil & surveying engineering.

CAD Systems from Antwerp, Belgium were also present with their ParaBuild software that offers complete steel construction drawing.

It was a great opportunity to catch with the Bricsys developers Tortsen Moses, Shivdeep Garud & LEDAS CTO Alexy Kazakov and discuss the opportunities and challenges in BricsCAD APIs.

It was also good to see some first-timers in the conference. Alfatech Vietnam Co. Ltd, operating as the Bircsys partner in Vietnam is a company founded by the hugely successful Bricsys Japan partner, Alfatech.
