Closing Remarks by Mattias Stenberg: President, Hexagon PPM Division
Now, for the last session of BricCAD Digital Summit 2021, we present a talk by Mattias Stenberg, President- Hexagon PPM.
This post is a transcript of his closing address delivered during the summit.

In a short series of Q&A with Kathy Hayes, Mr. Stenberg outlines the vision and aspirations of the Hexagon PPM division with the BricsCAD portfolio, and, in a larger sense, the Bricsys acquisition in 2018.
Mattias Stenberg heads the PPM division (the erstwhile Intergraph portfolio) of Hexagon. In this session, he tells us how Bricsys fits into the PPM roadmap of Hexagon and brings value to the customer.
He has been in Hexagon for over 12 years and one of his major roles was heading the Strategy and M&A divisions. This has given him a clear perspective of the Hexagon opportunities, the vision and the roadmap. At the core, Hexagon is a digital transformation company and the PPM division empowers companies to design, construct and operate profitably, safely and in a sustainable manner, whether it is building, infrastructure or industrial facilities.
Kathy Hayes: What does the Bricsys acquisition means to PPM?
Mattias Stenberg: We acquired Bricsys in 2018 and our primary objective obviously was the CAD platform for our flagship product, CADWorkx for the EPC market. But, we also knew and saw a much larger opportunity across the Hexagon businesses, that serves many
different industries. We knew that BricsCAD can really can be that powerful and open platform that any customer can use to write their own add-on applications, and integrate them with their existing tools and software systems. BricsCAD is truly a broad platform that can be leveraged upon. The primary objective on this acquisition was to get a deeper entry into the AEC space. On the other side, Bricsys and the customer also has benefited hugely from having a Hexagon-owned product and its access to discrete manufacturing software and
technologies.
“It has been a very synergistic relationship for both Bricsys and Hexagon, and we are here to stay in the AEC market” said Mattias Stenberg. We are confident that we provide a much better solution in BricsCAD than the legacy CAD software out there and this will only continue to get better.
Kathy Hates: Could you summarize why customers should use BricsCAD as a CAD platform of their choice?
Mattias Stenberg: There are a number of compelling reasons why you should choose BricsCAD. The number one reason is the single file format. This gives you design freedom across the phases of the project. The second reason is the interoperability and integration with other software and systems. Natively as well as through third-party application, BricsCAD offers the best connections to various downstream and upstream design processes. The third reason is the AI based techniques in BricsCAD, like BIMify and others. If you combine that with the automated workflows we have, you can really increase the throughput and efficiency. And finally, the licensing freedom is what sets BricsCAD apart from others – with one global license, you can be portable as far as licensing goes and you don’t need to worry about compliance and administration.
Kathy Hayes: So, are you saying that BricsCAD provides solid integration for Hexagon’s Tier 1 and Tier 2 EPC contractors and consultants?
Matthias: Yes, many of our EPC customers are now migrating from legacy CAD systems to BricsCAD as a one-source, one-stop solution for their software. Many of our CADWorkx customers are moving to BricsCAD Pro or BIM as their enablement platform.
With CADWorkx and BIM combined, this also provides us with the tools to not only build and design the process plant, but also do the BIM modeling of the building housing the plant. That is what we call an integrated 3d plant design and BIM software.
This is particularly compelling with industries like food and beverage. But, really, it applies to many other industries as well, like pharmaceuticals, chemicals and fertilizers, pulp and paper and more.
Kathy Hayes: Mattias, what value do these industries get from BricsCAD?
Mattias: Let me quote from three customers who have outlined what they found most useful in BricsCAD. The first one is Técnicas Reunidas from Spain, which is a large EPC engaged in buildting power plants, chemical industry assets and they work around the world. They engage in multi-engineering workflow and found BricsCAD a good fit at all segments and stages of their work process. The concept of One License for planet earth ensures that they are easily deployable and manageable. Their engineers told us that they benefit hugely from integration with other Hexagon solutions like SmartPlant 3D and CadWorkx.
Another customer story I would like to talk about is Techin Process Technologies in Mumbai, India. They are a large design organization and consulting company delivering process projects. They migrated heir CADWorkx into BricsCAD and have never looked back., They have achieved the perfect synergy blending the use of Caesar 2, CADWorkx and BricsCAD into one environment.
And, finally, we have Fourth Research and Design Engineering Corporation from China which is a research unit of CNNC (China National Nuclear Corporation). They use BricsCAD to focus on the entire industrial chain of pharmaceutical and chemical projects. They rely on BricsCAD BIM + CADWokrx for their complex 3d pipe modeling. Improved speed, improved quality and reduced workload on the later stages of the design.
We are thrilled with the three years since the acquisition of Bricsys. It is one of the greatest competitive advantage that a technology company can activate. The ability to identify, acquire and integrate value. And the whole thing is leveraged by its PPM customers. I can commit to you to double up on innovation. We believe we are ahead of the curve and you have seen that during this conference. We are not going to stop there on our innovation and R&D investment. And finally, we are committed to world-class customer support.
