Inside Bricsys’ Vision for BricsCAD – Cathi Hayes, VP, GoTo Market Strategy at Bricsys

In the second session of the BricsCAD Digital Summit 2021, Cathi Hayes, Vice-President of GoTo Market Strategy for Bricsys takes us through the overall Bricsys ecosystem vision. The focus on BricsCAD continues to be productivity and usability. To achieve that goal, Bricsys uses modern technologies and algorithms like AI, Machine learning, predictive analytics within the core of BricsCAD.

This document is a transcript of his opening address delivered during the summit.

“Bricsys is adopting a customer first approach”, says Cathi Hayes, and this is evidenced by the number of nitty-gritty fixes and improvements in BricsCAD over the past three years or so.  “This means we want to listen more to the user and provide tools that directly address what they need. This goes hand in hand with providing top quality innovation and customer support”, declared Cathi Hayes in what is now being read widely as the DNA of Hexagon’s push to make BricsCAD a mainstream design tool to reckon with.

Bricsys believes in producing design tools that allow users to move in and out between 2D and 3D with ease – in the same platform, same environment, and in the industry standard DWG format. “No software silos here as all modules are based on the same operating environment”, proclaimed Cathi Hayes.

As we would see later on in the sessions, BricsCAD offers seamless integration with CloudWorkx, CADWorkx and other Hexagon software.

“At another core of our philosophy is the idea of integrating and complementing construction and manufacturing. Our software provides you with both these technologies under one roof”, was the central message in this session.

We are proud of our extensive developer network, which builds upon our most comprehensive  and compatible APIs, harnessing the power of the BricsCAD platform to do more. Our APIs not only cover the core, but also dive deep into the BIM and Mechanical verticals to provide automation opportunities.

The first part of our vision for BricsCAD is flexibility – the ability to flow in and out between 2D and 3D. This enables users to use the right tool at the right time, and solve engineering problems quicker. 2D is not dead, and is an integrated component of every 3D design. BricsCAD is unique because it enables to think interchangeably in 2D and 3D as the situation demands. Engineers are not limited by the tools they use. Each designer may solve the same problem, using 2D tools or 3D. BricsCAD is the perfect enabler for such a situation.  Of course, the standard design approach of design it all in 3D and document it in 2D is srtill valid in BricsCAD.

The BricsCAD family of solutions enable users to spend more time designing and less time in the laborious aspects of the detailing. Some projects start with a 2D concept – floor plans and form sketches, some start with a 3D design from a Shape modeler of even Sketchup. BricsCAD can integrate both these approaches and take up exactly from where your initial design sketch has left you.

In the Mechanical arena, BricsCAD Direct modeling allows you to directly manipulate models like digital clay. When you models takes the final shape and form, BricsCAD BIM allows you to add intelligence in the form of BIMify and other tools, and auto-classify the model into a suggested BIM model. Of course, you can perform final edits, tweaks and arrive at your final design.

Your BIM models in BricsCAD are most compatible with industry-standard IFC files, and can be exchanged to a variety of other BIM software and services, on the desktop o on the cloud.

With Communicator, your BricsCAD DWG 3D solid models can be directly exported in STEP or IGES file formats. You can even bring assemblies from Solid Works, CREO and other formats for further documentation and design.

“Integrated workflows are the key to everything that BricsCAD stands for. We really believe in breaking down the silos and integrating workflows across industries and disciplines”, says Cathi Hayes.

Cathi’s session wrapped up with a number of video clips from leading case studies from a wide array of disciplines, which included Scuderia Mensa Racing, Willemen Group, Takamiya, Ecophos, Stageco, MAZDA and a new entrant Whangarei District Council (New Zealand).

At the end of the session, Cathi introduced the demo project for the remainder of the Bricsys Digital Summit 2021 – The Hexagon PPM headquarters in Hunstville, Alabama, USA.

This 5-storey metal and concrete building becomes the demo subject for the entire conference presentations this year.
