The Future of 2D and 3D Design: BricsCAD Lite and Pro – Gavin England and Don Strimbu

In the third session of the BricsCAD Digital Summit 2021, Gavin England, GoTo Market Manager for BricsCAD and Don Strimbu, Executive Product Owner, BricsCAD Core give us a dope on what is new about BricsCAD Lite and Pro.

This post is a transcript of the session delivered during the summit.

The moderator of this session, Cathi Hayes begins with a question for Don: Has 2D and 3D design reached maturity or is there still room for innovation?

Don Strimbu shoots down a popular notion in some parts of the industry that 2D and 3D have probably peaked in their innovation cycle and there is no room for growth. He begins by saying this blatantly false – there is still room for improvement in both. At Bricsys, we support both camps – those who start and end their work in 2D or those who start their work in 3d and move to 2D for drawing documentation and construction detailing.

2D is not going to go away anytime soon. In most cases, that is the deliverable for most projects and most importantly, that is the billable output from a design. Be it construction or manufacturing, the last-mile piece of data that drives it is in 2D.

“There is a ton of innovation still to come both in 2D and 3D” say Don Strimbu emphatically.

Taking the session forward after Don Strimbu is Gavin Englnad, and he says that, no matter what the industry, the primary goal of a designer is to solve design problems, and make it easier and efficient to do things. BricsCAD is innovative, has strength and stability. It takes all of the boxes when it comes to providing all the 2d and 3d functionality that you would expect from a legacy CAD system.

There is a huge stack of unique capabilities on top of that.  With many legacy CAD software cease to offer new functionality from many years,. We continue to offer ground breaking capabilities every year.

Kavin England explaining the value proposition of BricsCAD Lite & Pro vis-à-vis the legacy CAD systems out there.

Likening your legacy CAD systems as an old Classic car, Kavin says “Maybe you are comfortable with it, but it is ageing, using outdated technology and time to step up to something new and fresh out of the box”.

“So, what makes our customer love BricsCAD?” Here are the top 5 reasons.

  •         Open approach – our powerful APIs and Lisp technology in Lite version
  •         Intelligent automation: powered by AI
  •         Unified platform, with Pro as the base
  •         Design Freedom – the best of both modeling approaches. We call this variational design
  •         Smart optimizations – easily tidy up a bunch of disparate 2D and 3D data
  • BricsCAD Pro provides you with a solid base of advanced Point cloud modeling tools.
